EASYQUIK.txt January 15 1998

This file is put together for the assistance of a quick
get up and go for the setup of EASYEDIT.exe etc...

In the ready to go mode, the VDU has all the dots on the screen,

: Board Layer : Off Leave Off or 5

S M (Setup Menu Colours)

Entirely your choice - how ever I have mine set at
Background .... : 0 Text : 10 Lines : 2 Shadow : 8
----------------------------------------------------------------------
S K (Setup Keys)

Leave until much later when you are better at dangerous changes
----------------------------------------------------------------------
S O (Setup Options)

Auto Pan : On (saves hitting <F1O> all the time)
Backup : 5 (minutes for a safety backup)
Cursor Type : Small Cross (Your choice of 3 variances)
Drag : None (I find it ok - again your choice
in case you move a component then
all the tracks drag over auto.)
Ortho Mode : Off (makes tracks hard to put down)
Via Mode Auto : On
Flash Cursor : On (attention getter)
Question Delete : Yes (most definitely !!!)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
S R (Setup Redraw) Redraw Hints

Arcs... : Final - leave Final
Fills.. : Final - leave Final
Pads... : Final - change to Draft - easier on the eyes
Strings : Final - leave Final
Tracks. : Final - Final or change to Draft to check on your 'joins'!!
Vias... : Final - leave Final
----------------------------------------------------------------------
S S (Setup Strings/Text on board)

Free string size ........ 84 - change this when ever
Component Designator size 60 - frown on 48, too teensy
Component Comment size .. 60 - frown on 48, too teensy
----------------------------------------------------------------------
S T (Setup Toggle various layers on/off)

Top Layer : On (In case of Double Sided or Plated Through Hole)
Mid Layer : Off
2 Mid Layer : Off
3 Mid Layer : Off
4 Mid Layer : Off
Bottom Layer : On (Always ON !!!)
Overlay : On (Yellow Comp. layer Toggle)
Ground Plane : Off (Only on for RF circuits)
Power Plane : Off
Board Layer : Off
Multi Layer : On (Always ON for Pads etc)

(The board layer is a controversial layer, what it does is simply give
you a perimeter to work within, now when you are flipping + and -
between layers, it is a waste of time and an extra keystroke to have
the board layer on, when a simple yellow overlay is quite ok for the
designer to see what boundaries to work within...)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Key board Short Cuts, (I hate the mouse and it's inaccuracies)

P C Place Component - puts down last one used or
Shift ? pulls a new component from the library.
D C Delete Component.
M C Move Component
Then use the [SPACE BAR] to rotate the component in 90 do steps.

P T Place Track, check your T:xxx on the bottom datum line
D T Delete Track, the one the cursor is on or beep.
M T Move Track entirely, like a bulldozer, with similar results.
M D Move and Drag, an excellent tools for 'shifting ends of tracks'
M R Move and Re-Route, used for putting the 45 chamfers on the ends.
E T Edit Track, change this section of track to new size.
Ctrl T - this allows you quick change your desired TRACK width

P P Place Pad or <F1> check your P:xxx on the bottom datum line
D P Delete Pad or <F2> opposite to Place Pad ... hmmm
M P Move Pad, put cursor on pad, and push around etc...
E P Edit Pad, change the size of pad, DO NOT just put another pad ON
Ctrl P - this allows you quick change your desired PAD size

P S Place String, not belonging to a component, can be on the Bottom
layer in copper, red, to identify + or - or general connections.
D S Delete String, only for general strings, not on components.
M S Move string, cursor on the middle, [ENTER] / move or [SPACEBAR]
E S Edit string, only on general strings, not component strings/text
Ctrl S - this allows you quick change your desired STRING size

L B Library Browse , use this to 'see' the component you want
L C Library Change, components are in different Lib's (200 max !!)

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Pads should never be much smaller than 70thou (85 preferred)
PAD shape, old US military standard, Square = DC, Round = AC or data.
Grid should be IMPERIAL, 25thou snap, with 100thou visible NO METRIC.
Tracks - mostly 30thou, with 15 thou up the insides of IC's etc.
(remember the correct choice of pads and tracks you use, are inversely
proportional to the size of the bill from the pcb manufacturer)
---------------------------------------------------------------------
At the beginning of the program you have a menu box called CURRENT

This can be actioned any time by hitting a C and behold...

CURRENT (suggested settings)

Cursor Mode : Absolute Please leave this in this mode, at a
later date you may be more adventurous
                            to use this feature.

Floating Origin : 0,0 Again, Please do not touch.

Layer : Bottom Leave this as such as this is the
                            normal startup default layer.

Pad Type : Round70 Press [ENTER] if this is NOT so
as this should be your MINIMUM
default PAD (do-nut) size in thou.
I recommend Round85 for most use.
Pad Orientation : Normal Leave this, do not waste time.
Track Width : 30 Most of your artwork should be this.
in thou. You will 'thin' down to 15
thou if close proximity demands this
and you will 'neck' down to 10 thou
when you going between IC Pads.

String Size : 84 Normal or select 60 - Your choice
entirely as to how much info you want
                            on the cluttering the screen.

Via size : 62 The absolute minimum - better still
press [ENTER] and choose 70 Mil/thou
The term via is a wankers name for a
hole to connect both sides of a PCB
and not have use a component's lead
tails do the honours. Mostly used in
                            Plated Through Hole designs.

Arc Line Width : 10 Unimportant, this you change on the
run normally so don't loose any sleep
                            on this setting.

Grid : Imperial LEAVE THIS ON IMPERIAL - DO NOT USE
                            METRIC ! ! !
(REAL MEN USE IMPERIAL - ? USE METRIC)
---------------------------------------------------------------------
HIGHLIGHT
H N Highlight Nett command to verify a track and its associated
connection. An excellent de-bugger. (This electrically show track)

S C (Setup Component Text Defaults)

Comments .. : Hide
Designators : Hide
Layer...... : Overlay

(By putting the Comments on Hide, you do not get a 'cluttered ' up
screen in the early stages, the same goes for Designators.
The Layer should be the Overlay (Yellow) any other layer results in
copper placements with devastating results)
